Party at the lake camp. Good time, but now I'm sleepy. The Saints are no longer undefeated.

It is nearly impossible to convey to people Not From Here how simultaneously ridiculous, sad, and entertaining New Orleans politics can be. Earlier this year the Orleans Parish School Board attempted a coup, trying to fire the superintendent they hired less than two years ago. They were legally blocked from doing this, but now there are ugly internecine wars and they're all up for re-election in September. One of my favorite local gadflies, Sandra Wheeler-Hester, who has previously appeared at school board meetings in combat gear, been thrown out, successfully sued the board, and launched a cable access show about it all, is now running for the board. Here is her list of "Top 10 Reasons Why The Orleans Parish School Board Should Be Recalled and Indicted":

10. They're stupid.
9. They're incompetent.
8. They're egotistical.
7. One is maniacal.
6. One can't speak English.
5. One is brainless.
4. One is an anaconda.
3. They're not responsive to citizens.
2. They're not educating our children.
1. They're criminals!!

Running against Ms. Hester are a chef, a rich guy, and the incumbent, Jimmy Fahrenholtz, who was one of the superintendent's three supporters and to whom Ms. Hester has referred as "Jimmy Fahrenhonky." It should be a colorful race.
