Superbowl Bound

I remember the first time we drove back into New Orleans after the levees failed.

Tired, sad, and scared half to death of what we might find at our home, we came in across the Causeway, and the sight of the skyline simultaneously lifted and pierced our hearts. At the skyline's own heart was the no-longer-white curve of the Superdome, torn open to its skeleton, our symbol of hope become a symbol of helplessness and death.

Standing in the middle of the Dome last night, Coach Sean Payton said, "This stadium used to have holes in it. This stadium used to be wet. It's not wet anymore. This is for the city of New Orleans."

I have no more words. Except, of course, WHO DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want to read about the game, the fans, and the joyful eruption of the city, there's lots of great coverage on nola.com. I'm going to lunch with my favorite Whodat.

All pics by marquisdd. Thanks again to you and Ben for sharing this great night with us!

As I noted to a co-worker earlier: I really do wish I'd been in your city last night. It must have been one hell of a party.

Before I moved here, I never thought I could care about football. And I still don't, in general - but it's impossible not to care about the Saints.

Ditto on liret's sentiment.

Thanks, Poppy, for hosting last night and cooking all the deliciousness and finding that amazing king cake and for providing the perfect atmosphere that made the Saints win. (For really, it was us, and Paul across town, who won the game, right?) We'll have to hash over exactly what we were doing right and wrong that clearly had an impact on the game, and recreate the mojo in two weeks.

All I can say is that all of this couldn't happen to more deserving folks. I've never been a football fan, but I'm watching the Superbowl this year, just to watch the Saints beat the crap out of the Colts.

I can not think of anyone who won't be cheering on the Saints in two weeks! :)

:) I live in Minnesota! Your fine city deserved to win. Despite the darned Vikings dropping the ball all over the field that was quite a nail biter of a game. I'll be looking forward to rooting for the underdogs in the Superbowl. Glad that the folks down south are celebrating because you all could sure use the signal boost. Go SAINTS!

(I'm originally from Detroit. I still root for my hometown team on the off chance they have a winning season again some day. Sheesh.)

I thought of you and Chris when I watched the whole last quarter (I turned on the game late). I thought of everyone I knew affected directly by the failure of the levees. And I cheered and cried too.

That is some pure joy in those pics. :)
Not a football fan but I am very happy for one of my favorite cities.
Congrats Nola!!

I was thinking of you Poppy, (and Ricky and G-man) as the state I am in sighed a collective sigh. Congrats to you and your team!

You were the first person I thought of last night.. I heard Bobby Hebert on a local station earlier in the week and was like.. they're gonna with this. He put the totaly happy mojo on it for me.

I am so damn happy for the City of New Orleans and for you. Congratulations and those pictures are the best things ever.
WHO DAT!!! :)
